The undisputed, number one reason I see Black men walking into my dermatology office with? A disappearing hairline. Bald spots and thinning crowns follow close behind.
And it makes sense why it hits so hard.
If you're non-Black you've got options. You can grow your hair longer and sweep it forward. You can style it to create coverage. You can work with the length.
But when you're Black? Your options aren’t the same.
Want a hairstyle that covers your forehead? You're looking at locs, and that's about it. Even then, you're talking about years of growth just to get the length needed for any real coverage. And mind you, that’s if you even suit or want locs in the first place.
Unfortunately for us Black guys, all the styles that suit us best (fades, line ups, short cuts) all put our hairline on full display. God had to make things a little more complicated for us somehow.
So when my hairline started going, I knew I had to fix it.
